Portland driver arrested; OSP says impairment may have contributed |

A Bend man died in a head-on crash on Highway 26 near Government Camp on Tuesday, October 13, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded around 6:22 p.m. near milepost 62 in Wasco County. OSP’s preliminary investigation found that a westbound Ford Transit van crossed into the opposing lane and struck a Subaru Outback driven by Craig Gerard Russillo, 55, of Bend.
Passersby pulled Russillo from the Subaru after it caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Van driver Alexander Nikkole Meira, 20, of Portland, received hospital treatment for minor injuries. OSP said Meira was arrested on charges of second-degree manslaughter, DUII and reckless driving, and booked into the Northern Oregon Regional Corrections Facility.
Police believe impairment contributed. Highway traffic was affected for about five hours during the investigation.
