Pop-Up Farmers Market in Central Oregon: Stock Your Pantry Event at Deschutes County Fairgrounds this Saturday
The eighth annual Central Oregon Fill Your Pantry event will take place this Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm at the OSU-Extension parking lot at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds.
The Central Oregon Fill Your Pantry is a community bulk buying farmers market created so YOU can fill up your pantry, freezer, and root cellar full of great local products for the winter. Say bye-bye to busy holiday lines and produce that has traveled farther than you during holiday vacations, and say hello to a cupboard full of local meat, grains, vegetables, ferments, and more.
The Central Oregon Fill Your Pantry will allow you to stock up on items like potatoes, onions, leeks, beets, winter squash, garlic, honey, flours, apples, pears, dried beans, krauts, baked goods, and more.
This is a bulk focused farmers market, so bring your muscles! Farmers, ranchers, orchardists, and producers will be selling large quantities of items. For example, 20lb bags of onions, 50lb bags of potatoes, 25lb ground beef boxes, etc. This is a great opportunity for vendors to move product before the harsh Central Oregon winter and a great opportunity for YOU to save money and eat well all winter long. Oregon Housing Stability Council Greenlights $56.7 Million for Affordable Housing: $9.8 Million Allocated to Sisters' Trinity Place a 40-Unit Workforce Housing Project
The Oregon Housing Stability Council has approved $56.7 million in small projects and Veterans funding to 11 affordable housing developments across the state, including nearly $10 million for a 40-unit workforce housing project in Sisters called Trinity Place.
These investments from Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) will provide 261 homes in smaller developments for veterans, seniors, agricultural workers, people experiencing homelessness, and wildfire survivors.
According to information submitted to OHCS, the Sisters project, Trinity Place, developed by Northwest Housing Alternatives, will cost about $16 million in total, with one-, two- and three-bedroom units, as well as community space and an on-site green space. The focus is on workforce housing, with three units set aside for agricultural workers.
$1 Million Gift from JTMF Foundation to Help Transform COCC Madras
Central Oregon Community College’s (COCC) long-planned Madras campus expansion just moved closer to its fundraising goal thanks to a recently awarded $1 million grant from the Oregon-based JTMF Foundation.
The funding from the group will support COCC’s development of a 24,000-square-foot building designed for early childhood education programs, registered nurse and other health career pathways, and a 100-capacity child care center to serve the community. Groundbreaking for the new Madras campus facility is expected in the spring of 2024.
“Since first learning about this project in early 2022, we’ve been delighted to watch the progress made by COCC to bring its acclaimed early childhood education program and essential child care facility to its growing Madras campus,” said JTMF co-founder and trustee Tami Marick. “Now, with the project entering a critical fundraising stage, we’re pleased to make this significant investment and are excited about the impact the expansion will have for Jefferson County students, families and the community.”
Founded in 2020, the JTMF Foundation partners with causes and organizations across the Pacific Northwest that strive to make a profound difference in communities, with a special focus on improving the lives of children, veterans, seniors and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
COCC’s expansion project in Madras is a response to Jefferson County’s needs related to early childhood education and health care workforce gaps, along with a major shortage of child care options in the region. Funding is coming from public and private sources. Learn more at cocc.edu/growing together.
“This is a monumental gift from the JTMF Foundation and a major investment in the future of Jefferson County, with a reach that will benefit countless lives,” said Laurie Chesley, president of COCC.
“Community partnerships are such an integral part of the work COCC does and we are extremely fortunate to have the JTMF Foundation behind us as we endeavor to transform opportunities for families in the county,” said Zak Boone, chief advancement officer and executive director of the COCC Foundation.
