Local Service Organizations Unite to Provide 30 Beds for Children in Need

Redmond - In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, six Central Oregon service organizations collaborated to construct beds for children facing housing insecurity. The event, held at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, was organized by Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an initiative dedicated to ensuring children have their own beds for a good night's sleep.

Rotary Club members, including representatives from Greater Bend Rotary, Rotary Club of Bend, Mt. Bachelor Rotary, High Desert Rotary, Sisters Rotary, and the Kiwanis Club of Prineville, joined forces to build 30 beds for children in need. Mike Mowery, the Bend Rotary Club's community service chair, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing its resonance with their values.

"The community relations guy and I had decided that a build day at the fairgrounds was a good idea," stated Joe Myers, Sleep in Heavenly Peace's Chapter President, highlighting the collaborative effort between organizations and the strategic planning behind the event.

Generous donations played a pivotal role in making this initiative possible. Miller Lumber contributed the necessary lumber for construction, while Mountain View Heating's donation of a 14-foot Ford box van will facilitate the smooth delivery of beds to children across the area.

The collective effort demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting local children and ensuring they have a comfortable and secure place to sleep, fostering a sense of warmth and security within the community.

Bend man arrested, accused of breaking into a Deschutes County building, setting fire

Bend - A man, previously banned from a Bend campus, was arrested for allegedly breaking into and setting fire to a Deschutes County building. Patrol deputies responded to a fire report and found evidence of intentional entry. The 48-year-old suspect was arrested on arson, burglary, and criminal mischief charges. The incident likely occurred at a mental health clinic. The man had a prior history of bad behavior and is held without bail pending arraignment.

Records show he was arrested seven times on felony charges between 1995 and 2012 in Multnomah, Marion and Benton counties. Most recently, he pleaded guilty in 2013 to two second-degree burglary charges in Marion County and convicted of unauthorized use of a vehicle in Benton County.

Redmond City Manager's Optimism Fuels Economic Growth and Development

Redmond's City Manager, Keith Witcosky, is upbeat about the city's future, highlighting the strong partnership between local businesses and officials. He values open dialogue, flexibility, and praised the city's accommodating nature, likening it to top customer service brands. Businesses like SCP Redmond Hotel and Grace and Hammer Pizzeria, Local Paws pet store, and General Duffy's, have contributed to the town's growth. Redmond attracts businesses and talent, but transportation remains a hurdle for further growth, needing expanded routes. Despite challenges, Witcosky's enthusiasm and experience drive his commitment to navigating changes for Redmond's development.

Football Round UP

Summit loses to Wilsonville 34 to 2

Mountain View beats Silverton 42 to 19

Undefeated Mountain View is headed to the Oregon 5A football championship game next week. Summit’s run for back-to-back titles came to a rough end against the team it beat for last year’s championship. Mountain View and Wilsonville will meet for the title the day after Thanksgiving at Hillsboro Stadium.

No. 5 Washington clinches Pac-12 championship berth with win over No. 10 Oregon State 22 - 20

Record-Setting Day for the Ducks Yields 10th Win

Multiple Ducks set UO records as the No. 6 Oregon football team improved to 10-1 with a 49-13 win Saturday at Arizona State.

The Civil War between the Beavs and the Ducks is this Friday November 24th at 5:30pm playing at Autzen Stadium Eugene.

The Civil War rivalry game between Oregon and Oregon State has been played 126 times. The 127th meeting is scheduled for next Friday at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks are 9-1 this season. The Beavers are 8-2.

There was no Civil War game played in 1911 and the games were canceled in 1943 and 1944 due to the war. The rivalry series not only guarantees a sell out for the home team, but also fosters economic and intangible benefits to the state.

Due to UO leaving the Pac12 is it really the final meeting between the teams? Are both sides actually interested in continuing to play each other? Hopefully, we’ll know soon.

With UO leaving the Pac12, do you think UO and OSU will continue the Civil War?
