Structure Fire on NE 6th Street: Quick Response Saves Homes

Photo provided by Crook County Fire

Prineville, Oregon - January 9, 2024

A structure fire on NE 6th Street in Prineville, Oregon, was swiftly brought under control by the Crook County Fire and Rescue team on January 9th, 2024. The incident, which occurred at 3:13 AM, threatened a single-family residence and an adjoining house but was effectively contained by the firefighters.

The fire initially started on the exterior of the home and subsequently spread indoors, causing significant heat and smoke damage throughout the property. The neighboring house on the east side was at risk, but thanks to the rapid response and effective actions of Crook County Fire and Rescue, the flames were prevented from spreading further.

Thirteen responders, supported by three engines, one ambulance, and two chief officers, arrived promptly at the scene. Their immediate deployment of hose lines and coordinated efforts played a pivotal role in containing the fire, ultimately saving the threatened property and preventing further damage to nearby homes.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or rescues required during this incident. The fire was determined to be accidental, resulting from a meat smoker (BBQ) on the porch.

This incident underscores the importance of fire safety, especially during the winter months when heating and cooking equipment can pose risks. It also highlights the invaluable contribution of local firefighters and emergency responders, who work tirelessly to protect the community.

We extend our appreciation to Crook County Fire and Rescue for their swift response and commendable actions during this structure fire. Their dedication to community safety is vital, and their efforts prevented a more severe catastrophe.

As we move forward, it's a reminder for everyone to review their safety practices and take necessary precautions to protect their homes and loved ones from potential fire hazards. Together, as a community, we can continue to prioritize safety and support our dedicated first responders.

Bend Mayor Lists Priorities For Legislative Session

Making sure that we are able to continue our shelter operations with sustainable funding from the state, is a huge part of what we want to do. And then, we’re also looking at the focus on continuing to tackle the housing crisis, and to look at Measure 110 reforms. Those are the three areas I think we’ll be most active in," she tells KBND News.

He's just so excited to be playing with his toys, snuggling up, going on walks and loves all of nature. He has super high energy but at the end of the day takes himself to his crate and settles down with ease. He's also very snack motivated, and will try just about anything. His favorite right now is fallen peaches from our neighborhood peach tree. He is a n excited puppy and he brings a lot of joy."
