Bend, Oregon - Bend Police Department is offering a cash reward for any information that leads to the arrest of Ethan Russell Christensen, a 38-year-old Bend resident, in connection with an attempted armed robbery that occurred on January 9, 2024.

The incident unfolded at the Red Carpet car wash located in the 2600 block of NE Twin Knolls Drive around 10:45 p.m. The victim, who had parked his truck in a car wash bay to clear snow, was confronted by two individuals from an adjacent bay. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded the victim's wallet and money. A struggle ensued between the victim and the suspects, during which the victim managed to retreat to his truck and drive away to safety.

Following an investigation, Bend Police identified Ethan Russell Christensen as one of the suspects involved in the attempted robbery. On January 11, 2024, at approximately 5 p.m., an officer spotted Christensen driving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee on Arizona Avenue near Wall Street. An attempt to stop the vehicle at SW Bond Street and Bluff Drive in the Old Mill area resulted in the suspect's vehicle fleeing the scene, colliding with two other vehicles.

Minutes later, officers discovered the abandoned Jeep Grand Cherokee at Farewell Bend Park. Despite deploying multiple K9 units and drones, law enforcement was unable to locate Christensen in the vicinity.

In light of this ongoing investigation, Bend Police is offering a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of Ethan Russell Christensen. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact nonemergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.

The Bend Police Department extends its gratitude to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit for their valuable assistance in the search for Christensen.

The public is urged to come forward with any information that may aid in bringing the suspect to justice and ensuring the safety of the community.

Power outage in Sisters due to tree knocking powerlines down

Sisters, OR - The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office responded to an urgent report of a fallen tree and downed powerlines in the 200 block of South Ash Street in Sisters. This incident caused significant disruptions in the area.

As a result of the fallen tree and powerlines, S. Ash Street between W. Hood and W. Washington Street was blocked, as was a portion of W. Washington between S. Ash Street and S. Oak Street. In addition, W. Hood Avenue was inaccessible at S. Ash Street.

Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) and Sisters Public Works were immediately on the scene, working diligently to address the situation and make the area safe. Unfortunately, this incident resulted in a power outage affecting parts of the South side of the city of Sisters.

For safety reasons, citizens were strongly advised to steer clear of the affected area both on foot and by vehicle until the necessary repairs and safety checks were completed.

There were no reported injuries, and the extent of property damage was yet to be determined. Authorities were actively monitoring the situation and providing updates as more information became available.

In the meantime, residents and businesses in the vicinity were encouraged to stay informed through local news sources and official announcements from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.

City of Bend Prepares for Winter Storms with Dedicated Snowplow Crews

Bend - This recent snowstorm has dumped up to 10 inches of snow on the city's roads, prompting the deployment of plow crews working tirelessly to clear the streets. With more snowfall expected, these crews are operating for approximately 15 hours a day. Over a dozen city trucks are involved in the snow-clearing efforts, working in two shifts from early morning to early evening.

The city's priorities during this snowstorm include ensuring access to hospitals and schools, as well as the roads leading to these critical locations. Snowplow drivers are facing several challenges, with traffic congestion and parked vehicles posing significant obstacles. Charles Swann, the city's Street Operations Division manager, highlighted the long hours and fatigue experienced by the drivers, emphasizing the importance of regular rest breaks.

Navigating the city's hilly terrain with proper traction is another challenge for snowplow operators. The trucks are equipped with chains and all-wheel-drive to address this issue. The city employs around 30 snowplow and sanding truck drivers, divided into two shifts, from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with approximately 15 trucks in operation during each shift.

Swann mentioned that each snowstorm is unique, and the current one features bitter cold temperatures and light, fluffy snow, making plowing more manageable. However, different types of snow can present varying challenges.

In the event of excessive snowfall, road closures may be necessary until crews can address the dangers. Swann explained that they may call in contractors for residential areas depending on factors like forecasted accumulation and temperatures.

To prepare for winter conditions, city staff undergo an annual training program, and new staff members are evaluated before being assigned to snow-clearing duties.

Heavy snow, bitter cold hit High Desert; East Bend power restored, Tumalo DUII crash into pole brings arrest, outage

As reported from KTVZ

Heavy snowfall and dangerously cold temperatures arrived as forecast late Friday and Saturday across the High Desert, making for very risky travel conditions and keeping most folks at or close to home, although snow-lovers ventured out amid the storm to enjoy the tons of fresh powder.

About 2,400 Pacific Power customers on Bend's Eastside lost power Saturday night, amid frigid temperatures below zero. Pacific Power's outage map indicated the first report was around 9 p.m. and that the cause was under investigation. Repair crews first estimated service restoration before 11 p.m., delayed later to 12:30 a.m.

Power was restored to around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, spokesman Simon Gutierrez said. Facebook commenters said the outage included Forum Drive and the East Bend Safeway, which reportedly closed.

Local Trivia Answer:

Which river valley is La Pine located in?

A) The Deschutes River

B) The Little Deschutes River

C) The Crooked River

D) The Metolius River

Answer: B) The Little Deschutes River

The name "Little Deschutes River" derives from the early 19th-century fur traders who used the term "Riviere des Chutes," which means "River of the Falls" in French. This name was also applied to the larger Deschutes River, of which the Little Deschutes is a tributary. The "des Chutes" or "of the Falls" part likely refers to the waterfalls and rapids found along these rivers. This naming convention was common among French fur traders who explored and traded in the region during that time.
