BEND

The City of Prineville announced Monday afternoon that the top two leaders of its police department have resigned.

“The City of Prineville announces that Police Chief Larry Seymour and Captain Rob Gray have resigned from their respective positions effective immediately,” a brief news release stated. “The city wishes them both the best in their future endeavors.”

The city announced in late July that Seymour and Gray had both been put on paid non-disciplinary administrative leave. The decision was made pending investigation into an internal non-criminal personnel matter. Lt. Shane Wilson took charge of the department in their absence.

According to recent media reports, the investigation into the matter concluded in late November, but the details of that investigation have not been disclosed to the public.

The resignation was pursuant to a negotiated settlement agreement between the city and the officers.

Seymour joined the Prineville Police Department as a patrol officer in 2004. He was promoted to captain in 2016 and took over the chief position in July 2022 when former Chief Dale Cummins retired. Seymour promoted Gray to captain a short time after becoming chief.

City leaders said Lt. Wilson will remain acting as the officer in charge during the transitional period.

“The city and police department remain steadfast in serving and protecting the community. We appreciate the community's continued support during this transitional period,” the city news release stated. “The city will be working with our public safety team and public safety professionals to maintain continuity of operations and evaluate and determine our next steps.”

City of Redmond to Reveal New Public Safety Facility’s Design at January 29 Open House

The City of Redmond invites the community to see the latest design and upcoming construction plans for Redmond’s new Public Safety Facility at an open house Monday, January 29, Redmond City Hall, 411 SW 9th St., from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The FFA Architecture + Interiors team will present the proposed design, followed by attendees being given the opportunity to view plans and images of the project, and engage directly with members of the design team.

“In 2023, several outreach events were hosted to give community members the opportunity to influence the design of Redmond’s new Public Safety Facility,” remarks Redmond Police Chief Devin Lewis. “We are excited to reveal the final concept shaped by the feedback collected.”

In May 2022, Redmond voters approved a $40 million bond to finance the construction of a new public safety facility. Land was acquired in 2021 for the Public Safety Facility using Redmond American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The city has completed the design phase of the public safety facility, and construction is slated to begin this spring. City and project staff will be available during the open house for questions. More information available online at www.redmondoregon.gov/PublicSafetyFacility.

Redmond Police Investigate Burglary at Hola’s Restaurant

Redmond, Oregon - Hola’s Restaurant, located at 514 NW Greenwood Avenue, was the target of a burglary on 1/21/2024, and the Redmond Police Department (RPD) is seeking public assistance in their ongoing investigation.

During the hours between 10:08 pm on 1/20/2024 and 9:45 am on 1/21/2024, the restaurant fell victim to a break-in, marked by forced entry. Money and a bottle of tequila were reported stolen, leaving the restaurant's staff deeply concerned and the local community on edge.

RPD officers were able to collect potential DNA evidence at the scene, which is now being analyzed as part of the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity around Hola’s Restaurant during the specified timeframe to come forward with their observations.

If you have information that can assist in this case, please contact the Redmond Police Department via their non-emergency dispatch line at 541-693-6911. Your cooperation can make a significant impact in helping law enforcement solve this crime and restore a sense of security in our community.

City of Bend Hosting Informational Online Open House for Butler Market & Wells Acres Key Route
& Roundabout Project

The City of Bend will host an informational online open house to share the preferred design improvements being developed for the Butler Market and Wells Acres Key Route and Roundabout Project. The open house will be online from Jan. 22 – Feb. 5, 2024.

The City has initiated a key route preferred design that includes sidewalk level bike lanes and wider sidewalks for Butler Market Road between Boyd Acres Road and Brinson Boulevard. The project also includes a new single lane roundabout to make the intersection at Butler Market Road and Wells Acres Road safer and more efficient for all modes of travel. The online open house offers an opportunity for community members to gain insights into the preferred designs and estimated project schedule.

The online informational open house will include:

  • Results from the May 2023 Online Community Open House Survey

  • Preferred design planned for the Butler Market key route and Wells Acres roundabout improvements

  • Project schedule update

Community members can access the open house online at bendoregon.gov/butler-wells

The City is designing a variety of safer and more accessible bike and pedestrian routes throughout the community, including along Butler Market Road, one of Bend’s heavily traveled NE corridors. Making this corridor “key route” safer and more bike and pedestrian-friendly is part of the Transportation GO Bond approved by voters in 2020.

Improving the intersection of Butler Market and Wells Acres Roads has been a priority for the surrounding neighborhoods for many years. A new roundabout at this location will improve safety and efficiency for all modes of travel.

Once complete, the project will deliver a long-desired improvement to intersection safety and time reliability, and provide safer, easier connections for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling between neighborhoods, schools, parks and businesses in the area.

“Key Route” is a term from the Bend Transportation System Plan that means the route is designed to be “low stress” for pedestrians and bicyclists, to provide safe and appealing connections to schools, parks, and other destinations, as well as for cross-City travel. Examples include off street multi-use paths, buffered, separated, raised and/or painted bike lanes and widened sidewalks.
