Dry Canyon Arts Association Aims to Jumpstart Art Education...

On November 16-17, Dry Canyon Arts Association (DCAA) will host an art show and raffle at Redmond High School, aiming to fund their Jumpstart Art program, which seeks to bring art education to all elementary school children in Redmond. This initiative responds to local budget cuts that have left schools without art programs. DCAA has set a fundraising target of $80,000, with support sought from grants, local sponsors, and the art raffle. Raffle items include donated artwork, with all proceeds supporting art classes coordinated with school curriculums.

All flags were previously flown over our nation's Capitol and bear the names of veterans.

Flags will be removed at 4:00 p.m.

Downtown will be decorated with hundreds of flags, if weather permits.

Volunteers with the Redmond Flag Committee plan on placing 600 flags. They'll meet at 6:45 a.m. at the post office, if it's not raining. Anyone is welcome to join. The flags will come down at 4:00 p.m.

The parade is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

Bend seeks public input on climate action plan

The City of Bend is asking for the public's feedback on its climate action plan.

The city wants to drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions in two phases --  a 40% reduction by 2030 and a 70% cut by 2050.

"Community input is crucial in determining which strategies to prioritize and understanding the biggest barriers to emissions reduction efforts in Bend. This is a valuable opportunity for residents to voice their priorities on climate action," the City said in a statement.

The community can take part by taking a 15-minute online survey at this link.

Two Killed in Fatal Crash on Hwy. 97 in Klamath County

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore.

An accident on Highway 97 near milepost 228 in Klamath County claimed the lives of two people on November 1. Oregon State Police reported that the crash occurred around midday on Friday when a white Cascadia Freightliner, driven by 32-year-old Gurvinder Singh of Stockton, California, lost control on an icy stretch of road.

According to preliminary reports, the Freightliner was traveling northbound when Singh lost control due to slick conditions. The truck crossed into the southbound lane, jackknifed, and caused the tractor to collide with its trailer.

At that moment, a black Subaru WRX, driven by 24-year-old Leonides Jimenez Mendoza, collided with the Freightliner. The Subaru, traveling southbound, became trapped beneath the semi, resulting in severe damage. Mendoza and his passenger, 43-year-old Humberta Hernandez Hernandez, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash led to a closure of Highway 97 for approximately six hours as Oregon State Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted an investigation. The Chiloquin Fire District and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, urging drivers to exercise caution on icy roads as winter weather sets in.

Bend Teen Arrested For Child Porn, Local Victims Sought

A 17-year-old faces 130 counts of encouraging child sex abuse, and Bend Police are now searching for local victims. In September, Bend PD received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, claiming the teen had accessed child sex abuse material and uploaded it to a cloud-based storage device.

The suspect was arrested last week, following a search of a home on Stonewood Drive in Bend. Investigators learned the teen worked nearly two-dozen shifts as a safety monitor at Mountain Air Trampoline Park.
