๐Ÿ’ฃBend Police Respond to Bomb Threat

Issue #300

Good morning! I need your assistance.

๐Ÿ˜ I have been thinking about creating an additional newsletter focused on Events happening in the area and doing write ups of venues, area food places, restaurants, food trucks, etc, . Most likely the format would be listing events like I did before - listing event info - day/date, location, etc, as well as featured events.

This would be a separate newsletter emailed once per week. Would this be something as a reader you would be interested in?

Please complete this quick Survey, Only 4 short questions! Thank you so much for answering!

Here is the full announcement about the new restaurant from Compass Commercial:

Bend is gearing up to welcome a new Indian restaurant to its culinary scene, The Crown Curry. The restaurant is set to open in the former Nome Italiano space on SW Knoll Avenue and plans to open the doors to the public in late April or early May.

Man injured in Bend pizza oven explosion in ICU, GoFundMe says

A man who was injured in a pizza oven explosion Thursday afternoon was in intensive care Friday. A GoFundMe has been set up to help him out.

The explosion happened at the Bend Poker Room on NE Greenwood Avenue just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday. Bend Fire and Rescue said lighters in the oven had not ignited. Gas built up inside and eventually caused a small explosion.

The GoFundMe organizer said the victim, Danny Aguilar, works three jobs and is concerned about missing work. As of Friday afternoon, $3,500 had been raised toward a $12,000 goal.

No other details were given about his condition.

Sisters Senior Living discontinues assisted living services, forcing some to move

Sisters Senior Living announced Monday that it would be discontinuing its assisted living services, forcing what could be more than a dozen seniors to move out.

For residents and families, the announcement came as a complete surprise.

"What do we do now? What is each person going to do? It was upsetting. We didn't have any idea anything like that was coming," resident Erica Hartmann said.

The transition means anyone on assisted living within the facility will have to move out by April 24.

Hartmann is living independently, so she is eligible to stay. But she said she's concerned about the friends she may lose due to the transition.

"It was finalized and announced," Hartmann said. "I don't know, it would have been nice to say we're considering this. This may happen. Give us a little preparation."

This will also impact residents on hospice according to one woman who wished to remain anonymous out of fear she'd get in trouble for speaking out. She is one of people who are now being forced to find a new place to live.

"We just don't know yet as to how we're going to move. Everybody is very depressed about it. Moving is always a miserable job," she said. "It's hard for me because I'm so old and I am not getting any better. So it's going to be a very trying time for me, and especially for those of us who are in hospice."

Sisters Senior Living says economic challenges are the reason for discontinuing its assisted living services.

In a press release, the facility said, in part, "We understand that this decision impacts our residents and their families, and we have taken thoughtful steps to support them."

An anonymous source told Central Oregon Daily that 15 people are impacted by this decision and the caretakers who work there are also losing their jobs. We reached out to the facility several times for an interview, but it declined. It also did not confirm the source's information.

Bend Man Seriously Injured in Stabbing; Roommate Arrested

Escena Apartments

BEND, Ore. โ€” A 19-year-old Bend man was seriously injured in an early morning stabbing on Saturday, leading to the arrest of his roommate, police said.

Bend Police responded to a reported dispute at the Escena Apartments on Empire Avenue at approximately 1:17 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found 20-year-old Ty Joseph Blischke in the parking lot. Inside the apartment, they discovered the victim on the couch with a stab wound to his left ribs.

According to police, the victim identified Blischke as the person who stabbed him. A third roommate was in the apartment at the time but did not witness the altercation, only overhearing the incident from another room.

The victim was transported to St. Charles Bend with serious injuries. Blischke was taken into custody, questioned at the Bend Police Department, and later booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Detectives executed a search warrant at the apartment as part of the ongoing investigation.

Two Arrested in Holiday Motel Homicide Following Grand Jury Indictment

BEND, Ore. โ€” Two suspects have been indicted in connection with the January homicide of Robert Lewis Treher at the Holiday Motel in Bend.

A Deschutes County grand jury on Feb. 28 indicted 30-year-old Jessica May Sanders of Clearlake, Calif., and 38-year-old Jason Newton Loun of Redmond on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and third-degree theft. Both suspects are now in custody at the Deschutes County Jail.

Treher, 34, was found dead in a motel room on Jan. 3 after an employee called for a welfare check. His death was ruled a homicide, prompting an extensive investigation by Bend Police and Oregon State Police forensics teams.

Sanders, identified early on as a person of interest, was arrested the same day in a traffic stop near SW 27th Street and Juniper Avenue in Redmond. She was initially taken into custody on outstanding warrants from Lake County, Calif., and later charged with drug offenses after methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. She has remained in jail since her arrest.

Loun, another acquaintance of Treher, was arrested by Redmond Police around 2 a.m. on March 1.

Two Pedestrians Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash; Driver Arrested

BEND, Ore. โ€” Two pedestrians were injured, one critically, in a hit-and-run crash Friday night on SW Century Drive. The suspected driver was later arrested after approaching police at the scene.

Bend Police responded to the area near Cascade West Grub & Alehouse at approximately 8:04 p.m. on Feb. 28 after receiving reports that a vehicle had struck two pedestrians in a crosswalk and fled the scene.

Officers arrived to find a 37-year-old and a 33-year-old Bend resident suffering from injuries. Both were transported to St. Charles Bend, with one individual sustaining life-threatening injuries.

While officers were investigating, 35-year-old Stuart Daniel Heater approached them and admitted to being the driver. He directed police to his vehicle, which was parked nearby on NW Davenport Avenue. Heater was taken into custody and booked into the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII, hit-and-run, reckless endangering, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault. Authorities say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

The Bend Police crash reconstruction team responded to the scene, closing SW Century Drive between Albany and Simpson avenues until approximately 10:30 p.m. as they conducted their investigation.

Bend Police Respond to Bomb Threat Linked to Banking Scam

BEND, Ore. โ€” A bomb threat at a Bend bank on Friday afternoon prompted evacuations and a large police response, but authorities later determined the threat was part of a scam targeting a customer.

Bend Police were called to First Interstate Bank on NE Third Street at approximately 2 p.m. on Feb. 28 after receiving a report of a bomb threat. Bank employees and customers were evacuated to a nearby parking lot as officers secured the scene.

During their investigation, police learned that a customer had attempted to withdraw funds but was turned away after employees suspected they were being scammed. While the customer was still at the bank, the scammer called in a bomb threat, claiming an explosive device had been placed in the parking lot.

Officers deployed drones to search the area before conducting a thorough sweep of the parking lot and bank. No threat was found, and the area was deemed safe.

The incident led to a large police presence and temporary road closures for approximately 25 minutes. Authorities continue to investigate the scam and the source of the bomb threat.
