Bend Man with Lifetime License Suspension Arrested for Felony DUII, Resisting Arrest, and Firearm Possession

Bend, OR – Dennis Alexander Puente, a 32-year-old man from Bend, was arrested on Saturday for felony DUII, resisting arrest, and other charges after he struck a pickup truck and resisted arrest during a traffic stop. Bend Police received a complaint about an erratic driver in a white Chrysler Pacifica minivan waving out the window and following other vehicles in the downtown area. When officers attempted to pull Puente over, he struck a parked pickup truck, got out of the vehicle, and displayed signs of impairment. Despite repeated commands, Puente refused to cooperate and resisted arrest, prompting officers to use a WRAP restraint device. During a search of his minivan, police found open alcoholic beverage containers, a loaded stolen handgun, magazines with hollow-point bullets, and metal knuckles. Puente's license had been suspended for life in 2017 after a DUII and hit-and-run incident. He faces charges including felony DUII, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and felon in possession of a firearm. Puente was arraigned on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, and a public defender was appointed for his case.

Road to Pilot Butte summit closing to vehicles Sunday night

The road to the summit of Pilot Butte in Bend will close to vehicles for the season after this weekend.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said the gates will close at 8:00 p.m. Sunday night. OPRD cites a forecast calling for rain followed by sub-freezing temperatures later this week.

“The road will be open to pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles year-round, but please use caution as we receive more winter weather.” Park Manager Joe Wanamaker said in a statement.

The road will re-open to vehicles in April.

Mount Bachelor is hoping for more snow before their scheduled opening day.

Opening day is scheduled for Friday, November 24 — the day after Thanksgiving.

Mt. Bachelor received about seven inches of snow in the 24 hours ending Tuesday afternoon. There’s more in the forecast, but not enough to be certain about opening in two weeks.

The mountain needs at least two feet of snow to cover the runs and provide safe skiing and snowboarding.  The resort has started making snow under the Pine Marten lift when conditions are cold enough.

In the meantime, hundreds of employees are being hired and trained to operate the lifts, lodges, restaurants and retail shops.  And the maintenance  on several lifts has been completed, the Skyliner lift upgrade to a new six-person high-speed detachable lift (which will increase capacity on that lift by 50%) is on schedule to open before Christmas.
